Barco Set to Join Chelsea as Fifth Summer Signing — Alonso Chelsea
alonso chelsea is poised to add Valentin Barco as its fifth summer signing after the left-back said goodbye to Strasbourg. Barco’s exit moves Chelsea closer to another young addition as Xabi Alonso prepares to take over at Stamford Bridge.
Barco Leaves Strasbourg
Barco made the move public with a farewell message that left little doubt about the next step. “Today I say goodbye to this club,” he wrote, adding, “I always gave everything on the pitch in every game for this shirt.”
He also thanked his team-mates, Strasbourg staff and supporters in a longer note that named Liam Rosenior and Gary O'Neil, before closing with, “Thank you, Strasbourg.” The departure comes after he arrived in France in January 2025 on loan from Brighton and was later signed by Strasbourg for £8million.
Chelsea’s Summer Line
Chelsea have already built a youth-heavy intake this year. In January 2025, the club announced that Corinthians left-back Denner would join on July 1 after he turns 18, and the next month it announced the future signing of Kazakh teen Dastan Satpaev, Sporting CP winger Geovany Quenda and Strasbourg forward Emmanuel Emegha.
Barco fits that pattern and adds another option on the left side, with Marc Cucurella set to enter the final two years of his contract in west London. The move would also bring back a player who has already been named in Lionel Scaloni’s squad for World Cup 2026.
Chelsea’s Next Move
Barco received the “Here We Go” treatment from Fabrizio Romano, and April brought reports that Chelsea had already agreed terms ahead of a summer move. That puts the deal on the edge of completion, with Barco expected to become Chelsea’s fifth summer signing any day now.
