Gardiner Closure This Weekend: Toronto closes two expressways Sunday

Toronto drivers facing the gardiner closure this weekend will lose two major routes early Sunday, when the Gardiner Expressway and Don Valley Parkway close from 2 a.m. until 4 p.m. to make room for the Bike for Brain Health event. The shutdown runs from Highway 401 to the Lake Shore Boulevard exit in the west end.

Bike for Brain Health will bring more than 10,000 bikers and raise funds for Baycrest Hospital. Commuters and concertgoers are being told to plan ahead, with several transit changes already set for Saturday and Sunday.

TTC and GO changes

The TTC says the 505 Dundas streetcar will be diverted along College Street between Bathurst and Bay streets on Saturday, when the annual We Walk UHNited event takes place. Service on Line 2 will not run between Jane and Ossington stations, and shuttle buses will serve those stops.

UP Express trains will run every 30 minutes on Saturday and Sunday because of planned track work. For the same weekend, there will be no GO train service on the Lakeshore West and Barrie lines because of major track upgrades.

Lakeshore West and Barrie lines

From Saturday, May 30, until the end of service on Sunday, May 31, Lakeshore West trains will run between Niagara Falls and Aldershot GO and between Mimico GO and Union Station. Replacement buses will stop at West Harbour, Aldershot, Burlington, Oakville and Clarkson GO stations, then continue to Bramalea GO.

Commuters can connect from Bramalea GO to eastbound Kitchener line trains to Union Station. There will be no GO Transit service at Appleby, Bronte, Port Credit or Long Branch GO.

Concert travel on Sunday

On the Barrie line, GO buses will operate between Allandale Waterfront and Rutherford GO, with a connection at Hwy 407 Bus Terminal to Line 1 for trips to Union Station. There will also be no GO Transit service to or from Downsview Park GO, a stoppage that affects people going to the Bruno Mars concert on Saturday and Sunday at Rogers Stadium.

The TTC says it will increase service to Downsview Park for the concert, and the TTC and Live Nation Canada are offering free rides after the show when riders show concert tickets at Downsview Park, Sheppard West and Wilson stations. Sunday will also bring travel demand for concertgoers at the Rogers Centre and Scotiabank Arena.
