He described the stadium as “an amazing stadium for us,” but also pointed to what he wants preserved. “But there’s some character that I want to make sure we’re preserving and bringing back to the ground as well,” he said, while adding, “I do want Arsenal fans to know this is a very modern facility but also has a character.”

That balance sits at the center of the discussion. Arsenal’s recent rebirth has meant the club could sell tens of thousands more tickets than the current capacity allows, and the renovation talk follows several years in which the club has been considering some kind of evolution for the Emirates.
Kroenke said he wants to “bring and preserve some of the character of old English style football as well,” and told supporters, “I want to leave it up to our supporters and people that have experienced that to really tell me what that means.” For fans, the next phase is not just about capacity; it is about how much of the stadium’s current feel survives if the plan moves forward.
