Georgia Blasts LIU with 9 Homers in 18-2 Uga Baseball Score
Georgia’s uga baseball score was 18-2 over LIU, and the Bulldogs did it with nine home runs after an overnight weather delay pushed the final three innings to Saturday morning. The win moved Georgia through the Athens Regional and carried the season record totals to 158 home runs and 559 runs.
Volchko Sets the Tone
Joey Volchko got the win and handled the first six innings before the game was suspended in the bottom of the sixth at 15-1. He gave up zero earned runs and zero hits, struck out 10 and walked four in six innings pitched.
Wes Johnson said, "I thought when Joey came out yesterday, he was really good and set the tone early" and "I thought Joey did a phenomenal job of coming in and attacking the strike zone there." Johnson also said, "Anytime you’re in a regional, it doesn’t matter who you’re playing, there needs to be a lot of energy to start the first game or you’ll see things get sideways."
Hudson And Wynn Power Georgia
Brennan Hudson and Ryan Wynn drove the offensive surge before the weather delay, then added to it when play resumed Saturday morning. Hudson went 2-for-2 with two home runs and two RBIs, while Wynn went 4-for-5 with two home runs, four RBIs and one hit by pitch.
Saturday morning, Hudson, Wynn and Cole Johnson each added solo home runs to finish the game. Georgia finished with 20 hits to LIU’s two, hit.600 with runners in scoring position and was hit by a pitch six times.
Records Fall In Athens
The nine home runs tied Georgia’s school record for a game and matched what the Bulldogs did in a 24-6 win against Arkansas in April. It also broke the previous single-season school record of 151, set in 2024.
Georgia’s 158 home runs now lead Division I this season, and the 559 runs broke the program mark of 542 set by the 1990 College World Series-winning Bulldogs. LIU left Athens with one more game on its side of the bracket, while Georgia moved on to face Liberty at 5 p.m. Saturday after Liberty beat Boston College 4-3 in Game 1.
Liberty Awaits Georgia
LIU will play Boston College in an elimination game at 12:06 p.m. Saturday. Georgia, meanwhile, now carries a postseason lineup that produced nine home runs in one game and a record total that keeps rising with every inning.
