Hoffman Blue Jays Blow Late Lead in Ninth
Jeff Hoffman blew the ninth inning, and the hoffman blue jays turned a late lead into a loss on May 30, 2026. Toronto had scored in the eighth and again in the ninth, but Hoffman could not close it out in a non-save spot.
Vladimir Guerrero Jr. Sparks Toronto
Trey Yesavage worked five innings and allowed one run while walking seven and striking out four. Toronto backed him with three double plays in the second, third and fourth, then put together its best swings when Vladimir Guerrero Jr. singled to start the fourth.
Jesús Sánchez doubled Guerrero home, and Ernie Clements followed with a single that brought Sánchez across. The Blue Jays kept the pressure on in the eighth, when Nathan Lukes and Guerrero singled before Kazuma Okamoto doubled both runners home.
Jeff Hoffman Ninth Inning
Hoffman’s line was messy. He struck out one batter, hit one, allowed a triple, a double, a single and two walks, and finished with a minus-0.51 WPA as the inning spun away from Toronto.
Connor Seabold entered with the tying run on third base, the winning run on second and one out. He walked in the tying run after working to a 3-2 count, and the opponent’s next batter singled to end it.
Blue Jays Lose After Ninth
Toronto had 11 hits and got four from Guerrero, plus two-hit nights from Clements and Nathan Lukes. Andrés Giménez and Tyler Heineman finished without a hit, and the bullpen’s last frame erased what the lineup had built.
The loss left the Blue Jays looking at a quick turnaround the next day, with a 12:15 Eastern start against Kyle Bradish and Spencer Miles lined up as the bulk pitcher. Hoffman’s ninth-inning work changed a game Toronto had put itself in position to finish.
