Johan Vasquez Says He Is Happy at Genoa After Inter Interest
johan vasquez said he is happy where he is at Genoa and does not have a clear future move. He acknowledged interest from Inter Milan, but said it went no further. His focus now sits on Mexico's 2026 World Cup build-up and a group he described as difficult.
Vásquez Stays Put At Genoa
"No tengo claro, no sé el futuro, pero soy feliz donde estoy," Vásquez said when asked about a possible departure from Genoa. He added that the interest from Inter Milan stopped there, while making clear that his current life in the city suits him.
He also pointed to a personal reason for that comfort. His sons were born in Italy, and he said he is happy in the city where he lives now.
Inter Milan Interest Ends There
The remark leaves Genoa with the same immediate reality it has had through the transfer talk: Vásquez is still there, and he is not pushing for a move. For a Mexico defender already established in Serie A, that stability matters more than speculation that did not develop into a transfer.
Mexico Faces A Difficult Group
Vásquez then turned to Mexico's path toward the 2026 World Cup. He called the group difficult and named South Korea, South Africa and the Czech Republic as the opponents awaiting Mexico in the group stage.
He also said there is pressure on Mexico because of what happened in Qatar 2022, where he played in the previous World Cup and saw the team exit in the group stage.
That pressure, he said, is part of the job. For Mexico, that puts the next stretch on a simple track: keep him settled at club level, then carry that form into a World Cup cycle where the first match already carries huge weight.
