Florian Wirtz Alexander Isak Liverpool Free Up Salah Exit Says Shearer

Alan Shearer says the arrival of florian wirtz alexander isak liverpool and Mohamed Salah’s exit could leave Liverpool’s new signings mentally freer as the club heads into another major summer. Salah is set to leave on a free transfer after a nine-year stay, and Shearer believes that change could help Florian Wirtz and Alexander Isak settle.

Shearer on Salah’s exit

“It is a big transfer window for Liverpool on the back of a really, really frustrating season after winning the league.” Shearer said the club’s recruitment last summer has not yet clicked, then pointed to the players arriving around a changing forward line.

“Their recruitment last summer hasn't worked yet. Now, (Milos) Kerkez may get better, (Jeremie) Frimpong may get better, Wirtz may get better and Isak may get better and I think, because of Mo Salah leaving, mentally it will free up those guys.”

That is the clearest line in the debate around Liverpool’s rebuild: the club spent about £450million on new arrivals last summer, but Shearer still sees the group as one that needs time and a clearer attacking structure. Salah’s departure after a nine-year stay gives the squad a different reference point, and that includes the two most expensive names in the conversation, Isak at £125m and Wirtz at £116m.

Liverpool’s expensive rebuild

Shearer did not frame this as a finished project. “So I do expect them to get better. But with (Andy) Robertson leaving, and maybe (Ibrahima) Konate, with Salah, they need another huge summer.”

He then put a number on what Liverpool still need up front. “There's no doubt they'll need another striker in there, and a forward that's ready to go, and ready to come in and score 15 goals.”

That leaves Liverpool with a practical task rather than a broad reset. The club have already committed heavily, but Shearer’s view is that the next move has to add a scorer who can be ready immediately, not another long-term project. If the team wants the new structure to settle faster, the finishing has to come with it.

Yan Diomande link

One name already in that conversation is Yan Diomande. Liverpool have been linked with the RB Leipzig winger, and Shearer said the 19-year-old would bring something useful if the deal develops.

“They are linked with Yan Diomande and he's a really talented player. He would add a lot to Liverpool, but what the fee would be, I'm not quite sure.”

For Liverpool, that keeps the focus on the same issue across the window: expensive names have arrived, Salah is on the way out, and the next attacker they add has to fit quickly enough to lift a squad that Shearer says has not yet got the best from last summer’s spending.
