Kathryn Chalk says Uk Weather Forecast Cooler Temperatures follow 35.1C heat

Kathryn Chalk said the uk weather forecast cooler temperatures would arrive as fresher air moves in through tomorrow, ending the spell of heat that pushed the UK to 35.1C at Kew Gardens in London on Tuesday 26 May. The shift is set to bring a peak of 24C in the South East by Sunday, with rain and cloud spreading into parts of the country.

Kew Gardens and 35.1C

The UK had its hottest-ever May bank holiday weekend before Tuesday’s 35.1C reading at Kew Gardens beat the previous May record of 32.8C. Above-average temperatures held through the week, and parts of the south and east of England were still expected to reach 30C on Saturday.

Chalk said, “Fresher air is coming into place as we head through tomorrow.” She added, “As we head into the start of what will be meteorological summer, it turns downhill.”

North-West Front and Rain

A cold front moving east from the north-west is already bringing fresher, damp conditions to Northern Ireland and much of Scotland today, with potential thunderstorms and downpours. By Sunday, East Anglia and the South East should still see plenty of sunshine, but the day will turn fresher and cloudier as it goes on.

Farther north, the same system is expected to deliver longer spells of rain in the far north of Scotland, where temperatures are forecast to peak at 15C by Sunday.

June Outlook from Met Office

Chalk said, “We’ll see the return of more low pressure systems moving their way, so perhaps actually bringing some welcome rainfall and a relief from the heat.” Becky Mitchell added, “For the first half of June, temperatures will be around average.”

The next stretch is expected to stay unsettled through Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, with spells of rain, heavy and thundery showers, and further rain. Long-range forecasts then point to drier weather becoming more dominant through the second week of June, with high pressure likely to take charge from middle-June and temperatures trending above average again.
