Air Canada Flights add Montreal and Toronto routes, boost Mexico seats
Air Canada flights are getting a summer 2026 overhaul, with new routes from Montreal and Toronto Pearson and 18 per cent more seat capacity to Mexico than last summer. The changes give Canadian travellers more direct options for Europe and Mexico trips as airlines reshape their networks for the season.
Montreal and Toronto Pearson
Air Canada is adding Montreal-Nantes in June, along with new routes to Palma de Mallorca in Spain and Catania in Sicily. From Toronto Pearson next month, travellers will be able to fly direct to Shanghai Pudong, Budapest and Ponta Delgada in the Azores.
The airline will also offer a new Montreal-Guadalajara route three times a week in June. Montreal-Cancun has been expanded to 11 weekly flights, adding more lift on one of its Mexico routes as the summer schedule builds out.
Mexico Capacity at Air Canada
Air Canada said it is increasing its Mexico capacity by 18 per cent over last summer. That increase sits alongside the Montreal-Guadalajara service and the added Montreal-Cancun flights, giving the carrier more seats on both sides of its Mexico network as summer demand takes shape.
The expansion comes as airlines across Canada add routes to Europe and sun destinations while trimming some U.S. service. Much of the route reshaping is being driven by the FIFA World Cup, shifting demand away from the United States and toward direct point-to-point flying.
WestJet and Other Carriers
WestJet is also launching Ponta Delgada in the Azores in mid-June, placing another carrier on the same destination Air Canada will serve from Toronto Pearson next month. Air Transat has introduced weekly non-stop service between Quebec City and Marseille through October 8, and a new Quebec City-to-Nantes route runs from June 2 to October 22.
Elsewhere in Canada, Edelweiss Air launched service to Vancouver in May and began daily flights from June 13, while maintaining three-times-weekly service to Calgary from late May to mid-September and extending Halifax through October 18. SWISS International Air Lines has added five weekly flights from Toronto, and Heike Birlenbach said, "I am delighted that, with our long-established destinations in the U.S.A. and Canada, we’ll also be able to fly many soccer fans straight to their World Cup games,"
For travellers booking summer 2026 trips now, the practical change is simple: more direct choices out of Montreal and Toronto Pearson, plus more seats into Mexico. The busiest options in the carrier’s network are moving toward Europe and beach markets, so itinerary choices should widen before the season begins.
