Landon DuPont Scores Twice as Everett Rolls 6-1 — Memorial Cup Scores
Landon DuPont scored twice and Everett used a three-goal second period to beat Chicoutimi 6-1 in Friday’s Memorial Cup semifinal, a result that sends the Silvertips into Sunday’s final. In memorial cup scores terms, Everett answered its 6-2 loss to Kitchener on Monday by setting up a rematch with the Rangers for the title.
DuPont Returns For Everett
DuPont did it in his return to the lineup, giving Everett an early lift and finishing as the game’s defining scorer. Carter Bear added his third goal of the tournament and an assist, while Jaxsin Vaughan, Zackary Shantz and Julius Miettinen also scored for the Silvertips.
Everett led 2-1 after the first period and then pushed the margin to 5-1 after the second. That turned the semifinal into a runaway before the third period even settled in, with Chicoutimi never able to close the gap after Tomas Lavoie scored its lone goal.
Miller And Beckman
Anders Miller backed up the attack with 25 saves for Everett. At the other end, Lucas Beckman stopped 22 shots before getting pulled, and Raphael Precourt handled the rest by turning aside all eight shots he faced in relief.
The goaltending split matched the scoreboard. Everett kept the pressure on through the middle period, while Chicoutimi’s changes in net came after the game had already tilted hard in the Silvertips’ favor.
Everett Meets Kitchener
Sunday’s final starts at 7 p.m. Eastern time, and it gives Everett another shot at Kitchener after the Rangers won their round-robin meeting 6-2 on Monday. The Silvertips had already beaten Chicoutimi 5-3 in their opener last Saturday and shut out host Kelowna 4-0 on Wednesday without DuPont, but the semifinal was the game that mattered most.
Chicoutimi reached the semifinal after beating host Kelowna 3-2 in overtime on Sunday and then losing 3-2 to Kitchener on Tuesday. Kelowna went winless in the tournament, and Kitchener had opened the showcase by shutting it out 5-0 last Friday before building the matchup that now decides the Memorial Cup.
