Oklahoma Baseball Stuns Georgia Tech 15-8 Behind Eight-Run Fourth

Oklahoma baseball erased a six-run deficit and beat Georgia Tech 15-8 in Game 6 of the Atlanta Regional. The Sooners turned the game with eight runs in the fourth inning and forced Georgia Tech into a deciding game Monday afternoon.

Oklahoma Baseball Turns the Fourth

Seven of Oklahoma’s eight fourth-inning runs scored before Georgia Tech recorded an out. Deiten Lachance delivered the biggest blow, a grand slam that put Oklahoma ahead for good.

Brendan Brock opened with a lead-off homer, then Kyle Branch and Jason Walk followed with back-to-back RBI singles. Oklahoma added one run in the seventh inning and four more in the eighth, stretching the margin after taking control.

Georgia Tech Loses Its Grip

Georgia Tech had won its first two regional games for the first time since 2010, but that start disappeared fast once the Sooners changed the inning. From the fifth through eighth innings, the Yellow Jackets put six base runners on and none scored.

Drew Burress said, “Obviously, they made some good pitches,” and added, “But I think it was a momentum thing. Once we lost that momentum after the eight-run inning, I think we kind of struggled to get it back.” He also said, “We had quite a few opportunities, but the big swing didn’t’ come.”

LJ Mercurius Holds the Line

Oklahoma’s bullpen kept Georgia Tech from getting back into it. Gavyn Jones and LJ Mercurius shut the door, and Mercurius worked four scoreless innings after also throwing three scoreless innings against The Citadel on Saturday.

Mercurius said, “I lied and told (coaches) I felt fine, but I didn’t feel fine,” then added, “I felt good enough to be able to compete.” Oklahoma had been forced into four games in 36 hours after a Friday rain out, but the schedule squeeze did not stop the comeback.

James Ramsey said, “Ghosts aren’t real,” after the loss, then added, “This is the 2026 Yellow Jackets. We have an opportunity right in front of us … If you sat here and told our guys you have a chance to play at home to get out of a regional, and you didn’t know what was behind the door, you’d take that every single time.” Georgia Tech now plays Monday afternoon with its regional run hanging on one game.
