Buddy Kennedy Joins Giants After .321 Triple-A Surge
Buddy Kennedy is back in the majors, and the Giants gave him the call Monday after his.321/.424/.543 line for Sacramento forced the issue. The corner infielder joined the roster ahead of the series opener against the Milwaukee Brewers, with Jesús Rodríguez going back to Triple-A in the corresponding move.
Giants Add Kennedy, Ramos
San Francisco also brought up right-handed reliever Wilkin Ramos from Sacramento, a second move that opened another lane on the active roster. Neither Kennedy nor Ramos was on the 40-man roster before the Giants made the shuffle.
The club cleared space by placing Joel Peguero on the 60-day injured list and designating Triple-A catcher Logan Porter for assignment. Peguero injured his hamstring on Sunday, so the roster work came quickly and left the Giants with a very different bench mix by Monday.
Kennedy’s Sacramento Production
Kennedy, 27, signed a minor league deal with the Giants in the offseason and turned in one of the stronger stretches in the system. He hit.321/.424/.543 with eight home runs for Sacramento this year and struck out at a 12.4% rate, a sharp contrast to his major league line of.178/.271/.274 in 181 plate appearances.
He spent most of his time at third base in Sacramento and played good defense there, while also seeing time at first base. Earlier in his career, he logged a lot of second base, plus some shortstop and outfield work, giving the Giants a movable option if they need coverage beyond one spot.
Wilkin Ramos Gets First Shot
Ramos, 25, is getting his first major league look after posting a 2.00 ERA and a 3.99 FIP in 27 innings at Sacramento. He struck out 27 batters, walked seven and kept the ball on the ground at a 61.4% rate.
Since the start of 2023, Ramos has allowed just four home runs in 200.1 innings. For the Giants, that gives Monday’s move a clear shape: one bat that has earned a shot on performance, and one power arm reaching the majors for the first time while Rodríguez heads back to Triple-A.
