Muscatine Shooting Leaves 6 Dead in Domestic Dispute

Six people were killed in the muscatine shooting in Muscatine, Iowa, on Monday. Police said the series of shootings appeared to stem from a domestic dispute and left the suspected shooter dead as well.

Officers received a report just after noon and found four people with gunshot wounds at a home. All four were pronounced dead at the scene. Ryan Willis McFarland, 52, of Muscatine, left before officers arrived and was later found on a riverfront trail near a pedestrian bridge.

McFarland had a self-inflicted gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene after receiving medical aid. Detectives later found another man dead from an apparent gunshot wound in a different residence, and officers found another victim dead of an apparent gunshot wound at a business.

The Muscatine Police Department said, "Preliminary findings indicate the shootings stemmed from a domestic-related dispute." It also said, "All victims are believed to be family members of the deceased suspect." Police did not provide the names or ages of the victims.

Multiple Muscatine Locations

The shootings unfolded at multiple locations across the city, shifting the response from one home to another residence and then to a business. That sequence left investigators dealing with several scenes tied to the same case, while police worked to sort out how the events moved across Muscatine.

For residents, the immediate impact is that six deaths are now being treated as part of one domestic-related case, with police identifying McFarland as the suspected shooter. The victims were not publicly named, and the account now rests on the locations, the casualty count, and the police description of the dispute behind the shootings.
