Texas Tech Seeks 2 Wins Over Alabama at WCWS — Super Regional Schedule

No. 11 Texas Tech gets No. 1 Alabama at 6 p.m. in the first WCWS semifinal, and the super regional schedule now turns into an elimination test for the Red Raiders. Texas Tech needs two wins to reach the WCWS Finals, while Alabama is one victory from the championship round.

Texas Tech’s path through Devon Park

Texas Tech reached this point the hard way. The Red Raiders opened the WCWS with an 8-0 run-rule win over Mississippi State on Thursday, lost 2-1 in nine innings to No. 7 Tennessee on Saturday, then stayed alive Sunday night with an 8-7 nine-inning win over No. 8 UCLA.

NiJaree Canady started and earned the win against UCLA, and Kaitlyn Terry added another critical piece when she hit an RBI double in the top of the ninth to score Taylor Pannell. Terry and Canady each had seven strikeouts, giving Texas Tech just enough pitching to pair with a lineup that kept extending the game.

Alabama’s clean run

Alabama arrives with a seven-game winning streak and has not dropped a WCWS game. It beat UCLA 6-3 on Thursday and Nebraska 5-1 on Saturday, then earned Sunday off before the semifinal against Texas Tech.

The matchup also carries a long gap. Texas Tech is 1-3 all-time against Alabama, and the teams last met in 2017. That history sits beside a current Texas Tech offense that leads the nation with 654 total hits, ranks second with a.380 batting average, ranks third with 139 home runs, and has 37 run-rule victories, the most in the country.

What the semifinals decide

Texas Tech is trying to return to the WCWS Finals for a second straight season, but the route is narrow: it must beat Alabama twice to advance. Alabama needs only one win to move on, and the WCWS Finals are scheduled to begin Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Devon Park.

Sunday’s bracket left Texas Tech with no room for a slow start. A win at 6 p.m. keeps the season in play, and anything less sends Alabama forward with the cleaner path it has built all week.
