Anthony Gordon Joins Barcelona for £69.3m — Man U Transfer News

Man U transfer news moved again on Friday evening when Anthony Gordon completed his transfer from Newcastle to Barcelona for £69.3m including add-ons. Barcelona have paid a major fee for a forward who scored six Premier League goals last season, while Marcus Rashford's future at the club is still unresolved.

Gordon Passes Thursday Medical

Gordon passed a medical on Thursday before Barcelona finalised the move the next evening. The deal was completed after the club fended off competition from Bayern Munich, and the fee is understood to be €80m with add-ons included.

That price point sits beside the player Barcelona chose not to move for in the same way. Hansi Flick wanted a wide attacker who could also cover the front line, and Gordon fits that brief after Newcastle used him with Eddie Howe in a role that pushed for more speed across the attack.

Rashford's Barcelona Uncertainty

Rashford remains the unsettled piece in Barcelona's forward line. The club are hesitant to make his loan permanent, even after he made seven appearances through the middle and scored four goals in those games.

His broader numbers give Barcelona a reason to think carefully. Rashford posted 19 goal contributions in 36 domestic games and 28 in 49 across domestic and European matches, while Gordon finished with 10 goal contributions in 34 domestic games and 22 in 46 combined outings.

Gordon's Scoring Run

Gordon's output also gives the move extra weight. He scored five goals in five Champions League games last season, and nine of his 17 goals came when he led the line.

Only Kylian Mbappe and Harry Kane scored more Champions League goals than him in 2025/26, while Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Julian Alvarez and Vinicius Junior were among the only five players with more goal contributions. Barcelona have backed a forward whose scoring came in multiple roles, and that leaves the Rashford decision hanging over the next phase of their attack.
