Morocco Vs Madagascar Ends Scoreless Before Brazil Test
Morocco vs Madagascar at the Stade Prince Moulay Abdallah gave Mohamed Ouahbi one more chance to sort out his World Cup plans on Tuesday evening. Morocco entered the friendly after a 5-0 win over Burundi and with little more than two weeks before their Group C opener against Brazil.
Ouahbi’s Morocco Reaches June Checkpoint
Ouahbi used Tuesday’s match against Madagascar and the friendly against Norway on June 7 to test his options and finalise his preferred systems. Morocco have won four of their last five matches, with the only dropped points in that run coming in a March draw against Ecuador.
Last Tuesday’s 5-0 victory over Burundi offered a sharper read on the attack. Ayoub El Kaabi scored twice, Soufiane Benjdida scored twice, and Tawfik Bentayeb also found the net, giving Morocco seven goals across their last two outings.
Madagascar Arrive After Away Form
Madagascar came in having beaten Kyrgyzstan 5-2 and drawn 1-1 with Equatorial Guinea in their two most recent outings, both away from home. Corentin Martins’ side finished runners-up in Group I of the CAF World Cup qualifiers behind Ghana and were eliminated from World Cup contention because they did not post one of the best runners-up records across the continent.
That made the trip to Rabat a different kind of assignment for the 104th-ranked side. Later in the year, Madagascar’s AFCON qualification process was due to resume, so the friendly in Morocco served as a stop between two separate campaigns.
Morocco, Madagascar And The Final Tune-Up
The two sides know each other well from the African Nations Championship, where Morocco beat Madagascar 3-2 in the 2025 final and Madagascar beat Morocco 3-0 in the 2023 group stage. The competition is restricted to locally based players, which adds a different layer to those results, but Tuesday’s meeting sat in Morocco’s broader buildup to June 13, when Brazil await in Group C.
Scotland on June 19 and Haiti on June 24 complete Morocco’s group schedule. For Ouahbi, the value of Tuesday’s match was straightforward: one more live test before the tournament starts, with Norway still to come on June 7 and the Brazil opener next.
