Luka Vušković halts transfer talks until after World Cup
luka vušković has told his agent to stop all transfer talks until after the World Cup and his Croatia commitments. The 19-year-old Tottenham defender wants his next move settled only after he returns from America, keeping the focus on his first World Cup this summer.
Vušković and Tottenham
Vuskovic’s instruction puts his immediate future on hold even though he is tied to Tottenham until 2030. He has been linked with Barcelona, Bayern Munich and PSG, but he has now asked that all talks and negotiations be stopped immediately and postponed until after the tournament.
According to Croatian media, he has told his managers and Tottenham that he is concentrating only on the national team. That leaves the next step in his club career pushed to the back of the summer, with the decision to come when he returns from America.
Croatia Focus
The timing is tied to his first World Cup with Croatia, and he does not want anything to pull him away from that run. He has been called up to the squad and could be involved in Croatia’s warm-up match against Belgium in his homeland on Tuesday.
That is the same stretch in which he is trying to keep club business out of the way. For a player who is 19 and already drawing interest from major European sides, the pause adds a clear boundary around his summer.
De Zerbi and HSV
Last week, Vuskovic said playing with his brother at Hamburger SV would be a dream and a dream come true, but he added that it is hardly possible. He also said, “I don’t know what else to say except - impossible,” about that idea.
He was on loan at Hamburger SV over the past 12 months and helped them stay up, then earned a place in the Bundesliga Team of the Season. He also said Roberto De Zerbi is a top-class coach who likes attacking football and build-up play, adding, “I hope we’ll work well together in the future.”
For Tottenham, the short-term issue is simple: the player is telling everyone involved to wait. The next call on his future comes after Croatia’s World Cup run, and until then the market around him is on hold.
