Denzel Dumfries Talks With Real Madrid Over Right-Back Move

denzel dumfries is in talks with Real Madrid over a move from Inter Milan, with the Spanish club making him their top target at right-back. Madrid want to strengthen that side before their next squad plans are finalized, and the deal has already reached direct discussions with the 30-year-old.

Real Madrid and Dumfries

Real Madrid have actively pursued Dumfries while also working on a deal for Ibrahima Konate, but the right-back chase has become the clearest immediate target. Sources briefed on the talks said personal terms are not expected to be an issue, which gives Madrid a cleaner path if they decide to move quickly after the club presidential election.

Dumfries has a €20million release clause. That figure sits below the €30million profile Madrid have been seeking for a new right-back, leaving the club with a lower-cost route to add a player they already view as their first choice for the position.

Carvajal's Exit Looms

The urgency comes from Madrid's own depth chart. Captain Dani Carvajal is set to leave when his contract expires at the end of June, and if that happens, Trent Alexander-Arnold would be the club's only senior recognised right-back.

Jose Mourinho has been focused on strengthening the defence and asked for a backup right-back, a left-back, a dominant centre-back and a creative midfielder. Madrid's interest in Dumfries fits that brief, while Pedro Porro of Tottenham Hotspur and Sporting CP's Ivan Fresneda have also been considered for the role.

June 7 Vote

One source said Madrid were planning to conclude the deal for Dumfries after Sunday's presidential election. Florentino Perez is expected to win the vote on June 7, which gives the club a political checkpoint before it moves on the transfer.

About 100,000 Madrid club members are eligible to vote, and Enrique Riquelme is Perez's challenger. For Madrid, the timing means the Dumfries pursuit is already in motion; for Inter, the right-back could be on the move as soon as the election is settled.
