Lewis Koumas Uncertain on Liverpool Future After Slot Exit

lewis koumas is unsure what his Liverpool future looks like after Arne Slot was sacked over the weekend. The 20-year-old has spent the season on loan at Hull City, and the managerial change has left his next step tied to decisions now being made at Anfield.

Koumas and Hull City

Koumas ended the season at Hull, where he scored a late winner on his debut against Blackburn Rovers, added the fourth goal in a 4-2 win over Derby County and then struck the decisive goal in a 2-1 victory at Wrexham. Hull City went on to win promotion to the Premier League at Wembley Stadium, giving his loan spell a strong finish.

“I’m not really too sure about the future, but I’m really happy with the way I’ve developed over the last couple of years and some of the achievements I’ve had,” Koumas said. “I suppose it’s not really in my hands, but I’ve gone out on loan and shown what I can do and scored some goals. I hope I have impressed, and we’ll just have to see what happens.”

First-Team Minutes

His path has been shaped by time away from Liverpool. Koumas previously had loan spells at Birmingham City and Stoke City, and he said staying around first-team environments has been key over the last year or so.

“I’m just really happy with how it has developed over the last two years, and I’m excited for the future now. Staying in and around first-team environments is definitely what’s been key for me the last year or so. It’s definitely going to help a lot. All the experiences I’ve been lucky enough to have are going to pay off in the end,” he said.

Wales Duty Next

Koumas is now away with Wales for friendlies against Ghana and Romania over the next week, and he takes 10 caps into that camp. He also said of his Hull spell: “To go to Hull and achieve something very special, the changing room is definitely one of a kind, and to do it with them was one of the best feelings ever.”

The immediate issue for Liverpool is simple: Koumas has put goals, promotion and first-team exposure on his side, but the club’s decision-making now comes after Slot’s exit. His own answer was just as direct — he has done his part, and the rest is out of his hands.
