Michael Ryals Youth Baseball Coach Banned for Life After Kansas City Throw
Michael Ryals youth baseball coach was banned for life after a Kansas City dugout throw during Memorial Day weekend led to severe discipline in a youth tournament. His 12-year-old son, the pitcher, received a five-year suspension after the ball was thrown at full-speed into the opposing dugout.
Kansas City Dugout Incident
The incident unfolded during a USSSA tournament game against a Nebraska team. reported that the Oklahoma coach allegedly instructed his son to throw the ball into the other dugout, and video of the play spread across social media over the next few days.
The video showed coaches from both sides walking into view and yelling at the end of the sequence as the crowd shouted expletives. That turned a single pitch into the central disciplinary case of the weekend.
USSSA Investigation
The United States Specialty Sports Association said it had completed a thorough investigation of the incident. John J. Latella, the organization’s CEO, said, "Due to the sensitive manner of the issue, and involvement of minors, no further comments will be provided".
The punishments leave the coach out of youth baseball for good and keep the pitcher sidelined for five years. For anyone in USSSA competition, the case now stands as a hard line on conduct inside a tournament dugout, especially when minors are involved.
