Sri Lanka Edge West Indies in Wi Vs Sl ODI Series Opener

Sri Lanka and West Indies opened wi vs sl at Sabina Park in Kingston, Jamaica, on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, with the first of three one-day internationals. The series began with both captains carrying ranking pressure into a meeting that had not happened since Sri Lanka’s 2-0-1 home series in November 2024.

Sabina Park Opens the Series

Shai Hope led West Indies into its first ODI series since November, while Kusal Mendis captained Sri Lanka in a matchup that carried more weight than a one-off fixture. The teams returned to 50-over cricket with the visitors ranked No. 6 in the ICC ODI rankings and West Indies sitting No. 10.

The opener came at 10:30 a.m. ET, and the same ground was set to host the second ODI on Saturday and the third on Monday. That schedule kept the series compressed in Kingston, with no travel built into the one-day portion.

ICC Rankings at Kingston

Sri Lanka arrived with several players placed near the top of the ICC lists. Charith Asalanka was the side’s top-rated batter and tied for No. 11, Maheesh Theekshana sat sixth among bowlers, and Waninga Hasaranga was ninth among allrounders.

West Indies had its own ranking markers. Hope shared No. 7 in the batting rankings, Jayden Seales held No. 16 among bowlers, and Gudakesh Motie was No. 16 among allrounders. Those numbers made the opener more than a reset after the gap since the last ODI meeting.

West Indies Home Tour

The ODI leg was only part of Sri Lanka’s tour of the Caribbean. The trip also included three T20I matches and two Test matches, with Kingston scheduled to host the T20I competition and North Shore, Antigua, set for the Tests.

West Indies was swept in three tightly contested matches in New Zealand last November, while Sri Lanka lost a three-match series to England in Colombo in January. Both sides entered this series looking to turn those recent results into something cleaner in the standings and steadier across formats.
