Azeb Wolde-giorghis to replace Céline Galipeau at Téléjournal

azeb wolde-giorghis will replace Céline Galipeau as host of Radio-Canada’s late-night Téléjournal at the end of August. Radio-Canada announced the change on Wednesday, setting a handoff date for one of its evening newscasts after Galipeau’s nearly 18 years in the role.

Galipeau confirmed last month that she was leaving the Téléjournal after nearly 18 years at the helm. Her departure gives the newscast a clear deadline for the transition, with Wolde-Giorghis taking over at the end of August.

The change is limited to the late-night edition. Wolde-Giorghis is a journalist and is leaving Washington to take the job.

Radio-Canada Wednesday

Radio-Canada said the move would put Wolde-Giorghis in the anchor chair for the Téléjournal de fin de soirée. The network also said Galipeau will move in the fall to a new weekly magazine on international current affairs.

The pairing of a new anchor and a new assignment for the outgoing host leaves the late-night Téléjournal with a defined handover and gives Galipeau a separate role later in the year.
