Gary Thompson Halts Wednesday Racing at Tt Fan Park Closure
Wednesday racing at the 2026 Isle of Man TT stopped before it started, with a tt fan park closure and no scheduled racing after poor weather and further showers were forecast throughout the day. It was the fourth race day to fall away, and only two of the five scheduled races had gone in before the latest cancellation.
Gary Thompson and the TT schedule
Gary Thompson, the clerk of the course, said the final contingency day is likely to be used for the Senior TT. He also said the second Sportsbike TT could possibly be run on Sunday, which leaves the week leaning on the weather window rather than the original timetable.
The organiser said there would be no scheduled racing on Wednesday, and the clerk of the course was working closely with the Met Office to identify opportunities for racing during the remainder of the event. Friday’s forecast was described as clear, while Thursday and Saturday were not expected to help the schedule.
Dean Harrison and Michael Dunlop
Before Wednesday, Sunday’s Superbike TT had run the full six-lap distance and Dean Harrison won it. Tuesday’s Supersport TT was cut to three laps after heavy rain hit the course in the morning and again in the afternoon, and Michael Dunlop took that race.
The disruption had already started on the opening day of race week, when last Saturday’s three-lap Superstock TT was called off. By Wednesday, the Sportsbike TT and Saturday’s delayed Superstock race were still waiting to be run, along with the rest of the week’s program.
Friday at the Isle of Man
The organiser may try to run Supersport, Sportsbike and Superstock races on Friday over three laps each, but officials are unwilling to run more than nine racing laps in a single day. One of the week’s two Supersport races is likely to be lost to the weather, and the schedule now depends on how much of the clear Friday forecast survives the course.
With the Senior TT pushed toward Sunday and the forecast for that day also not good, the rest of the event is moving toward shorter races and fewer chances to recover lost time.
