Alex Jones returns to The One Show after illness on June 3
Alex Jones was back on the one show on Wednesday, June 3, after missing Monday and Tuesday because she was ill. She returned to the One programme saying she was “slightly croaky” and “nearly recovered,” a quick reset for a weekday show that starts at 7pm.

“Glad to be here,” Jones said as the show started, with Angellica Bell greeting viewers by saying, “Good news, everyone. Alex is back!” Jones fronted the programme alongside Bell after JB Gill had stepped in with Roman Kemp on Monday and Tuesday. For a live daily magazine show, keeping the presenting pair stable matters as much as the guest list.
JB Gill’s two-night fill-in
Jones has presented the programme since 2010, making this a routine absence rather than a format change. Even so, two consecutive episodes with a stand-in host showed how quickly the show has to adjust when one regular presenter is off air, especially on a weekday schedule where the next broadcast comes at 7pm the same evening.
The also lined up Dara Ó Briain and Shania Twain as guests, which gave the return episode a fuller booking sheet than a simple catch-up between presenters. That keeps the focus on the sofa itself: Jones was back, the replacement run was over, and the programme moved straight back to its normal rhythm.
Jones and the 2010 run
Jones said last year, “I feel incredibly proud to have been on the iconic sofa for all these years.” She added, “It certainly doesn’t feel like 15 years, and it still feels fresh, as the show keeps evolving,” and said, “I feel like I’ve grown up with our viewers.”
For regular viewers, the practical change is simple: the familiar weekday lineup returned on June 3, with Jones back beside Bell after a brief illness break. In a schedule built on routine, that was the job done — and the show carried on with its usual lead presenter in place.
