Braves Acquire Austin Wynns for Cash, Add Him to Roster
The Braves added austin wynns to the major league roster after acquiring the veteran catcher from the Angels for cash. The move came the same day Atlanta designated Chadwick Tromp for assignment and shifted Sean Murphy to the 60-day injured list.
Austin Wynns Joins Atlanta
Wynns is 35 and brings six prior stops in the majors: the Reds, A's, Orioles, Giants, Dodgers and Rockies. He signed a minor league deal with the Angels a couple of weeks before the trade to Atlanta, then did not appear in the majors for Los Angeles before the Braves moved.
Atlanta selected him to the major league roster immediately, giving the club another catcher with 826 big league plate appearances and a.231/.276/.347 career line across 293 games. He has also thrown out 30.2% of attempted base thieves in the majors.
Chadwick Tromp Leaves Roster
Tromp made the corresponding exit after appearing in 12 games for the Braves. He went 5-for-25 with a double, no walks, a sacrifice fly and a sacrifice bunt, leaving him with a.200/.192/.240 batting line in 27 plate appearances for Atlanta.
His major league line now sits at.218/.225/.371. The Braves moved quickly to replace that production, selecting Wynns while also making room on the 40-man roster through Sean Murphy's transfer from the 10-day injured list to the 60-day injured list.
Sean Murphy And Sandy Leon
The roster shuffle also brought DaShawn Keirsey Jr. onto the 40-man roster before Atlanta sent him right back to Triple-A Gwinnett. Keirsey has appeared in parts of two seasons with the Twins from 2024 to 2025 and owns a.113/.149/.206 line in 102 major league plate appearances, though he is 16-for-17 in stolen bases in Triple-A.
For the Braves, the catching picture now centers on Wynns and Sandy Leon, who are expected to split time behind the plate while Murphy stays on the 60-day injured list. That leaves Atlanta with a veteran backup plan in place and a roster spot created by Murphy's move still occupied by players whose roles can shift quickly around the injured list.
