Subaru Recalling 69,663 Forester SUVs Over Sunroof Detachment Risk
subaru is recalling certain 2026 Forester and Forester Hybrid SUVs after regulators said the sunroof glass may detach while the vehicle is being driven. The recall covers 69,663 vehicles, and Subaru plans to start notifying affected owners on July 24.
2026 Forester Recall
According to NHTSA documents, an estimated 2.9 percent of the recalled Foresters are affected. Subaru said the impacted vehicles may have been built with sunroof assemblies in which the glass panel was not properly bonded to the sliding frame.
That assembly problem can weaken over time and allow the panel to fully detach from the car while driving. The paperwork says the issue is tied to the application of the bonding material, not the primer or the bonding agent itself.
Subaru Dealer Inspection
Subaru will ask owners to bring their Forester to a Subaru dealership for an inspection of the sunroof panel. A technician will check the panel for proper adhesion and replace panels with alternatives that have proper adhesion when necessary.
The company began notifying dealerships of the recall in late May. Subaru is aware of three technical reports in the United States related to the sunroof issue, but there have been no crashes or injuries tied to the defect.
Forester Owners July 24
For owners, the practical step is to wait for Subaru’s notice and then schedule the inspection at a dealership. The recall centers on a specific manufacturing problem in the sunroof assembly, so the repair process is aimed at checking whether each panel is securely attached before it can come loose on the road.
