Ampadu Agrees Leeds Deal Until 2030 — Leeds News
Leeds news moved fast on Thursday morning: Ethan Ampadu has agreed a new contract that will keep him at the club until 2030. The 25-year-old had one year left on his previous deal, but Leeds have now secured their captain after a season in which he played more than anyone else for the club.
The timing matters because Leeds finished 14th in the Premier League and secured survival three matches before the season ended. Ampadu’s extension gives the club a fixed point around its captain as it plans the next phase.
Marathe on Ampadu
Paraag Marathe said Ampadu was central to Leeds all season, calling him a player who set the standard on and off the pitch. “Ethan was so instrumental for our whole year, and he’s such a captain on and off the pitch,” he said in interviews on Thursday morning. “Everything he does is true leadership.”
Marathe also tied the contract to the club’s wider plans. “He’s almost like one of us on the pitch, but he’s also one of the guys and so we all thought it was such an important first step for this upcoming window,” he said. That leaves Leeds with its captain under control through 2030, not just for the coming season.
Farke and Leeds Planning
The conversation around Ampadu ran alongside another key issue: Daniel Farke’s future. Marathe said the manager is “a big part of Leeds’s future” and added, “My hope and expectation is he’s with us for a while.” Farke has one year left on his contract, and Marathe said talks about a new deal would happen at the right time.
Farke said on May 15 that his mission was fulfilled after three years, and added: “There’s nothing to add anymore. We spoke about four years, but after three years, all the boxes are ticked. Right now, it’s important we sit together in a trusting atmosphere and speak about new goals because this period is done right now.” Marathe responded by saying, “I love his ambition,” while also adding, “Leeds is bigger than him and Leeds is bigger than me.”
Leeds Contract Window
For Leeds, the immediate result is stability in two of the most important positions in the structure: captain and manager. Ampadu, at 25, has now been tied down through 2030 after playing more minutes than anyone else in the squad during a season that ended with Premier League survival secured before the final three matches. That gives Leeds a clear leader as the club moves into its next window.
Marathe also made his view on the manager plain. “I’m excited about him coaching the squad and hopefully he’ll be doing it much longer than this season as well,” he said. Leeds now enters the next phase with Ampadu extended, Farke still in place for now, and both contracts sitting at the center of the club’s planning.
