Kevin Bridges Meets Cafu in 1x60’ BBC Football Film

Kevin Bridges met cafu and held the World Cup while filming Kevin Bridges: In Search of the Beautiful Game. The moment came as the comedian and football fan made a new documentary that links Scotland’s return to the Men’s World Cup after 28 years with football communities in Brazil, Scotland and the USA.

Cafu and the World Cup moment

"Obviously meeting Cafu was an amazing moment and when he handed me the World Cup, wow." Bridges said that was the standout point of the journey. He added: "I don’t think I managed to suppress the 12-year-old inside me."

The film is a 1x60’ documentary produced by Bango Studios and becomes available on iPlayer on Friday 5 June. It airs on Scotland at 9pm that night, then on One at 10.30pm on Sunday 7 June.

Brazil, Scotland and the USA

Bridges’ route for the documentary takes him to Brazil, Scotland and the USA, with the project using football as the thread between places and people. The film also features Daniel and Liz from the Cantagalo favela, two people Bridges said "really touched my heart too when they explained their projects and how they’d left".

That wider travel gives the meeting with Cafu extra weight. Bridges first experienced World Cup joy in 1998, and the new film lands as Scotland prepare for the 2026 FIFA Men’s World Cup and a group meeting with Brazil, the sort of matchup that puts his childhood memory and his new experience in the same frame.

Daniel and Liz in Cantagalo

Bridges singled out Daniel and Liz as part of the film’s emotional centre. Their stories sit alongside the Cafu meeting and the trip across three countries, giving the documentary a reach beyond nostalgia and into how football is experienced in different communities.

For viewers, the practical takeaway is simple: the documentary arrives on iPlayer on Friday 5 June, with TV airings following on Scotland at 9pm and One at 10.30pm. The rest of the story is in the encounters Bridges had on the ground, especially the one in which he held the World Cup in his hands.
