2024 RGG Studio reveal
2024 was the first year Sega publicly signaled that several long-lost franchises were coming back, and RGG Studio was announced that same year as the developer of an untitled Virtua Fighter project. The new title turns that placeholder into something players can actually track, and it gives the team a concrete runway into 2027.
Gameplay was first shown at EVO last month, which is the clearest sign so far that the project is moving beyond teaser-stage branding. Jake Valentine, a DualShockers contributor, reported that the game is coming in 2027, matching the window Sega and RGG have now attached to the project.
Pai Chan and the teaser
The debut teaser shown by Geoff Keighley featured Pai Chan, but it also suggested the game may not be a traditional Virtua Fighter experience. Sega’s line for the project was blunt: “A city you've never seen. A story you've never heard. A totally new Virtua Fighter.”
That wording leaves the franchise’s old arcade rhythm behind and points instead to a cleaner reveal strategy built around modern hardware from day one. For players, the practical takeaway is simple: Virtua Fighter Crossroads now has a name, a direction, and a 2027 target, which puts the next big update on the project in reach rather than in rumor territory.
