Tyler Kolek Is Four Wins From An NBA Championship
tyler kolek is four wins away from an NBA championship as the New York Knicks prepare to face the San Antonio Spurs in the NBA Finals. Game 1 tips off Wednesday night at 7:30 p.m. CT in San Antonio, Texas, with New York chasing its first title in more than 50 years.
Lyyn Kolek On Madison Square Garden
Lynn Kolek said the Knicks’ Eastern Conference championship celebration in Cleveland took her back to her son’s college days. “It reminded me of the Big East tournament being in Madison Square Garden with all that confetti coming down, and I could only imagine that to feel the same way in Cleveland,” she said.
She also said she could not be prouder of how he has handled the climb. “Couldn't be prouder. I mean, who wouldn't be, you know, but he's worked so hard. And that's what gets me the most, is I know the work he's put in, and I know he's ready for every moment he gets out there,” she said.
Shaka Smart On Kolek
Tyler Kolek’s path to this stage runs through Marquette and the 2024 NBA Draft. The Knicks selected him 34th overall in a trade from the Portland Trail Blazers, and he tied a career playoff high with 8 points in New York’s Game 4 clincher against the Cleveland Cavaliers.
Shaka Smart called him “a winner” and said, “He's a winner, so for him to be able to be part of a team that's in the NBA finals and on the precipice of winning the whole thing is really cool to see,” before adding, “He's just a young basketball gym rat from Rhode Island.” That profile fits the role he has played when the Knicks have needed him most, even with his playing time fluctuating during the year.
Madison Square Garden Awaits
Lynn Kolek said Milwaukee is as much of Tyler Kolek’s home as New York and Rhode Island, a reminder of how many places have shaped his rise. She and Tyler Kolek’s father will attend Games 3 and 4 when the series shifts to Madison Square Garden, where the Knicks will have a chance to keep pushing toward the franchise’s first title in more than 50 years.
