Carreras Starts at No.10 as Bath Vs Leicester Role Shift Holds
Bath vs Leicester will start with Santi Carreras at No.10 on Saturday, with Finn Russell still out while recovering from a tight calf. The Argentina international has already handled the role in two wins this season, giving Bath a proven option for a crunch Gallagher PREM clash at home.
Carreras and Bath’s 10 jersey
Bath have turned to Carreras again because he has a 100% record in the No.10 shirt for the club. He wore the jersey in December away to Newcastle and again in March away to Sale Sharks, when he slotted eight of his 13 goal-kicking chances across those two matches and converted 61.5% of them.
That selection also keeps Bath from handing the role to Ciaran Donoghue, who is only two games into his comeback from a serious knee injury suffered against Munster in pre-season. Max Ojomoh gives Bath another option at 10 because he has excelled there whenever asked, while Cam Redpath offers further cover from the bench.
Van Graan keeps the pack
Johann van Graan also kept faith with an unchanged tight five from last week’s match against Bristol Bears. Beno Obano, Kepueli Tuipulotu and Thomas du Toit were named in the front row, with Ted Hill and Charlie Ewels in the second row.
Josh Bayliss joined Sam Underhill on the flanks and Alfie Barbeary started at No.8. Ben Spencer will captain the side from half-back, with Max Ojomoh and Ollie Lawrence together in the midfield, Henry Arundell and Joe Cokanasiga on the wings and Tom de Glanville at full-back.
Bath’s bench and exit list
Bath named Dan Frost, Francois van Wyk and Vilikesa Sela among the replacements, with Ross Molony, Ewan Richards and Miles Reid listed as replacement forwards. Tom Carr-Smith and Cameron Redpath completed the matchday squad.
The selection lands in the same week Bath confirmed the departure of 10 players at the end of the season, including six from the senior squad. Saturday’s home match against Leicester Tigers now carries more weight, with the 10 jersey and the result both feeding into a run that could shape where Bath finish.
