RCMP Investigating Newfoundland Power Cable Theft in Catalina
Bonavista RCMP is investigating a break and enter at a newfoundland power substation near Route 237 in the Catalina area after suspects stole AASC cable overnight before Wednesday, June 3, 2026. Police responded just before 9 a.m. to the report and are now sharing images of two people believed to be involved.
Catalina Substation Theft
The cable taken from the site was Aluminum Alloy Stranded Conductor, pulled from a storage container inside the facility. Police said as many as two suspects gained entry to the power substation overnight, giving the case a narrow time window and a specific place to check for witnesses or vehicle sightings along the Route 237 area.
The substation is a Newfoundland Power facility, and the investigation is continuing with the utility’s full cooperation. For residents and workers nearby, the immediate focus is on the police images now being circulated and whether anyone saw movement around the site before the break-in was reported.
RCMP Images and Tips
Police are asking anyone who can identify the two people in the released images to come forward. Bonavista RCMP can be reached at 709-468-7333, and tips can also be passed along through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
The public release of the images gives the investigation its clearest lead so far. With the theft tied to a named facility, a specific road, and a tight overnight window, the next useful information is likely to come from anyone who saw people near the Catalina substation before police arrived just before 9 a.m.
