Lou Sanders event cancelled as poor ticket sales hit Leicester comedy show

lou sanders was due to appear at LCF In The Park in Leicester on 14 June. Organisers cancelled the Abbey Park show because of poor ticket sales, turning a planned summer off-shoot of Leicester Comedy Festival into another setback for Big Difference.

Lou Sanders and Tom Rosenthal had been lined up for the event. Big Difference, which organised both Leicester Comedy Festival and LCF In The Park, told ticket holders their costs would be refunded within 10 working days, though booking fees were non-refundable.

Big Difference and Abbey Park

LCF In The Park was supposed to give Leicester Comedy Festival a summer presence at Abbey Park, but the cancellation leaves the organisation with one less public-facing date to sell. Big Difference said last month that cashflow problems were behind hundreds of performers still being owed money for their Leicester Comedy Festival appearances, which means this cancellation lands in the middle of a wider financing problem rather than as an isolated programming change.

Michael Harris-Wakelam, the chief executive of Big Difference, said organisers were committed to paying comedians but were still waiting on the money themselves. “We're having to look at alternative sources of finance to bridge that gap, but that takes time,” he said. He added: “We're prioritising those artists right now - to the detriment of some of our other planned activities.”

Refunds within 10 working days

Organisers told ticket holders that “poor ticket sales” drove the cancellation and said: “Customers have been contacted regarding refunds for their purchase.” The refund window is specific: costs are due back within 10 working days, with booking fees excluded from the reimbursement.

That leaves the practical question for buyers simple. Anyone holding a ticket for Abbey Park no longer has a show to attend, but the money for the ticket itself should come back on a fixed timetable. Big Difference also said, “We hope to be able to bring a summer event back to Leicester next year.”
