Iwo Baraniewski Opens UFC Vegas 118 as a -380 Favorite
Iwo Baraniewski enters UFC Vegas 118 as a -380 favorite for a light heavyweight bout with Junior Tafa on Saturday night. The unbeaten Polish prospect puts an 8-0 record on the line at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, where the opening fight of the main card carries quick-finish expectations.
Baraniewski’s UFC start
Baraniewski has not gone past the first round in the UFC. All three of his appearances ended by first-round knockout, beginning with Ibo Aslan and followed by Austen Lane in his most recent victory.
That latest win came with a left hook in the opening round, and it extended a run that already includes finishes in all eight of his professional victories. Six of those wins have come by knockout, with the other two by submission.
Tafa’s recent run
Tafa comes in at 7-5 overall and 3-5 since joining the UFC in 2023. He snapped a two-fight skid in his last outing, stopping Kevin Christian with mounted elbows in the first round.
Before that win, he had dropped back-to-back submission fights to Tuco Tokkos and Billy Elekana. Tafa has seven career knockouts, and his recent results have tracked with a fighter who can finish fast but has not settled into a consistent run in the UFC.
Odds at the Apex
The betting line points to a mismatch in style and pace as much as record. Baraniewski is priced at -380, Tafa at +300, and the under 1.5 rounds sits at -330.
Baraniewski’s numbers help explain that market. He averages 15.77 strikes per minute with 70% striking accuracy, while absorbing 14.01. His defense sits at 46%. Tafa averages 3.62 strikes per minute at 53% accuracy, absorbs 2.66, and carries a 51% striking defense plus a 72% takedown defense rate.
The opening bout on UFC Fight Night 278, headlined by Muhammad vs. Bonfim, gives the card an early test between two heavy-handed fighters. One arrives unbeaten with every win finished; the other arrives off a knockout and still trying to find traction inside the UFC.
