Nicholas Galitzine Masters Universe Film Shot at Beer Quarry Caves
Nicholas Galitzine masters universe film was shot at Beer Quarry Caves in East Devon before reaching cinemas on June 3. The production turned the 2,000-year-old cave network near Seaton into part of Eternia, giving the remake a location with far more texture than a standard soundstage.
Beer Quarry Caves in Eternia
Beer Quarry Caves provided the production with vaulted roofs and pillars made of beer stone, the kind of built environment that can carry a fantasy setting without heavy digital dressing. The site has been likened to an underground cathedral, and that scale is part of why it could stand in for a world beyond Earth.
Sharon Ryan of the Devon Film Office said, “We’re thrilled that the Masters of the Universe team recognised Devon’s potential as a filming location; it’s a real win for the county, helping to put us on the map as a film-friendly destination. And, given the success of the shoot, it’s proof that Devon not only has brilliant locations, but the infrastructure is also in place to host productions at any scale. He-Man is an iconic character and Beer Caves an equally iconic location – we’re excited to celebrate the film’s release into the world!”
Devon, Somerset, and the cast
The film also used Wookey Hole and Wells Cathedral in Somerset, extending the production footprint beyond East Devon. Nicholas Galitzine stars as He-Man, while Jared Leto and Idris Elba appear in the cast, and Travis Knight directs the remake of the 1982 film of the same name.
Nick Hookway, East Devon District Council Portfolio Holder for Tourism and Culture, said, “We were delighted to see ‘Masters of the Universe’ filming at Beer Quarry Caves, one of East Devon’s most distinctive and atmospheric locations. Hosting a major international production like this is a fantastic opportunity to showcase our area to a global audience and highlight the unique landscapes and heritage that make East Devon such a special place. We are proud to welcome the screen industry to our district and recognise the positive contribution that productions can make to local communities, from supporting local businesses to raising the profile of the area as a visitor destination.”
June 3 release in cinemas
June 3 put the film into cinemas after the Devon shoot had already done its work on the ground. For local readers, the practical takeaway is simple: Beer Quarry Caves is now part of the film’s selling point, not just a heritage site near Seaton, and Devon has another high-profile screen credit tied to a major international production.
