McDavid Wins Ted Lindsay Award for 5th Time

Connor McDavid won the ted lindsay award for the fifth time after a surprise presentation at Magna Golf Club in Aurora, Ontario. The Edmonton Oilers center and captain was recognized by fellow NHL players again, putting him alongside Wayne Gretzky as the only five-time winner.

Magna Golf Club Surprise

McDavid reached the ninth hole and saw his parents step out of a golf cart with the award. His wife, Lauren, his parents, Brian and Kelly, his brother Cam and his wife, and four childhood friends were part of the surprise.

Before the reveal, Lauren McDavid said, "Connor just thinks that we are going to play nine (holes) and have dinner afterwards" and added, "I haven't done too many surprises for Connor, but I think he's going to be really thrown off." After the presentation, McDavid said, "I was texting my buddies midround and they weren't texting me back."

McDavid's Peer Vote

The Ted Lindsay Award goes to the NHL's most outstanding player, with the vote coming from members of the NHL Players' Association. McDavid has now won it in 2016-17, 2017-18, 2020-21, 2022-23 and this season.

That fifth win matches Gretzky's total and gives McDavid another player-voted honor in a season where he led the League with 138 points. He finished with 48 goals and 90 assists, points in 68 of 82 games, 43 multipoint games and seven games with at least four points.

McDavid's 2023-24 Numbers

McDavid also ran off a 20-game point streak from Dec. 4-Jan. 13 and piled up 46 points during that stretch. He reached his 400th NHL goal and 1,200th point this season while leading Edmonton in goals, assists and points.

The Oilers finished second in the Pacific Division with a 41-30-11 record and clinched a Stanley Cup Playoff berth for the sixth straight season. McDavid is also a finalist for the Hart Trophy, and he has won that award three times, the Art Ross Trophy six times, the Maurice "Rocket" Richard Trophy once and the Conn Smythe Trophy once.

Brian McDavid on Wayne Gretzky

Brian McDavid said, "He's 29 years old and has won it for the fifth time." He also said, "You know, Wayne is the iconic player in the game, and to have Connor's name up there with his name is just surreal."

Kelly McDavid said, "I think this award means a lot to Connor." She added, "This is an award that is voted on by the players, and he values what the other players think of him and his work on the ice." McDavid closed by saying, "This award, coming from the guys that you play against every single night and battle against every single night and to have them recognize me for an award like this means so much."
