Air Canada Launches Budapest–Toronto Route on 6 June — Air Canada New International Routes
Air Canada new international routes began on 6 June with a seasonal Budapest–Toronto service that restores a direct link between the two cities. The flight runs until 24 October, giving passengers a non-stop option that had previously been operated by Air Canada Rouge from 2016 to 2019.
The route starts at four times a week and rises to five weekly services in July and August. Air Canada said Toronto also gives travelers access to more than 48 destinations across Canada and over 100 destinations throughout North America.
Budapest Airport June Launch
François Berisot, chief executive officer of Budapest Airport, welcomed the service with a quote that placed the launch among the summer’s most anticipated connections for passengers traveling for leisure or business: “We are delighted to welcome Air Canada’s Budapest–Toronto flight, which is one of the most eagerly anticipated connections of this summer season by passengers, whether they are travelling for leisure or business”.
Budapest Airport said nearly 90,000 passengers travel annually between Hungary and Canada. That traffic gives the route a clear base of demand, and the new schedule reopens a direct option after the 2016-2019 Air Canada Rouge service ended.
Rocky Lo Air Canada Service
Rocky Lo, managing director of international sales at Air Canada, said the carrier is the only airline offering the non-stop Budapest–Toronto service. He added, “We are thrilled to be the only carrier offering a non-stop service between Budapest and Toronto, connecting families, tourists and businesses across the Atlantic with ease.”
Passengers using the route can also continue onward from Toronto to the Caribbean, Hawaii and several South American destinations. The combination of a restored direct flight and broad onward connections gives the service a value that goes beyond the city pair itself.
François Lafrenière Canada
Canadian Ambassador François Lafrenière said the service would make family visits easier while also encouraging tourism and business cooperation between the two countries. He said the route would help the approximately 350,000-strong Hungarian diaspora in Canada, while Budapest Airport said the Budapest–Toronto flight is the second direct North American destination for Budapest this summer.
For travelers, the practical change is immediate: a seasonal non-stop flight is back, the frequency increases in midsummer, and the service remains scheduled through 24 October. For the route to keep building on that demand, passengers will decide how full those four and then five weekly flights actually stay.
