Robert Kraft Lands A.J. Brown for Patriots' 2028 First-Round Pick

Robert Kraft’s Patriots added A.J. Brown, and the move cost them a Day 3 pick next year plus a first-round pick in 2028. New England now has Brown, Romeo Doubs and Kayshon Boutte in the same receiver room after reaching Super Bowl LX last season.

Brown Joins New England

The trade gives Drake Maye another proven target after the Patriots signed Doubs in free agency before this deal. Brown arrives as a three-time Pro Bowler with six 1,000-yard seasons in seven years, a profile that is rare even on a team that has already moved aggressively to reshape its passing game.

Tyler Sullivan called Brown a game-changer in sharper terms than most outside evaluations. “Even at this later stage of his career,” he wrote, “Brown is a game-tilter and the biggest alpha wide receiver the Patriots have had since Randy Moss.”

Doubs And Boutte

Doubs gives the Patriots a second outside piece, but his production has been more modest. He has yet to post a 1,000-yard season over four years in Green Bay, so Brown becomes the clear top end of the group while Doubs slides into a supporting role.

Boutte adds a different body type to the mix. Last season in New England, he showed flashes of being a big-bodied downfield weapon in the vein of Brown, and the Patriots now have three receivers with contrasting resumes but overlapping traits that can stress defenses in different ways.

Maye's New Target

The pressure now shifts to Maye, who finished second in 2025 and enters this setup with more help than he had before the trade. Sullivan put it directly: “If Drake Maye continues to emerge as an MVP-caliber quarterback after finishing second in 2025, he may have just been given nitrous in the form of a true No. 1 weapon.”

That is the immediate football consequence of the deal. New England paid premium draft capital to add Brown, and the roster now reflects a clear bet that the offense can turn last year’s Super Bowl LX run into something even more dangerous with a true alpha receiver at the center of it.
