Mosaddek Hossain Hits Unbeaten 86 in Bangladesh's 284

Mosaddek Hossain returned to ODI cricket after nearly four years and answered with the highest score of his career, an unbeaten 70-ball 86 that lifted Bangladesh to 284 for eight against Australia in Mirpur on Tuesday. Bangladesh were 140 for four when he settled in and carried the innings through the final overs.

Mirpur ODI return

His comeback mattered because he had last played ODI cricket during Bangladesh's home series against Zimbabwe in August 2022. This was also his first international appearance since the ICC T20 World Cup in Australia later that year, and he made the move count by striking seven fours and three sixes.

Bangladesh needed that stability after a quick wobble at the top. Saif Hassan was out for five in the second over, and Tanzid Hasan Tamim followed with 54 off 44 before Nathan Ellis removed him when Bangladesh were 106 for two in 16.3 overs.

Shanto and Mosaddek

Najmul Hossain Shanto added 67 off 86 and kept the scoring moving until Matt Renshaw broke through, dismissing both Litton Das and Shanto. Litton made 7 off 9 before giving a return catch to the off-spinner, while Shanto was caught by Cooper Connolly off Renshaw.

From there, Mosaddek took over. He came in at 140 for four after 25.3 overs and stayed to the end, giving Bangladesh a total that looked far stronger once the middle order had been tested.

Nathan Ellis pressure

Australia still had control in spells. Nathan Ellis finished with three wickets for 38 runs and struck in the second over, while Renshaw's part-time spin provided the two wickets that removed Bangladesh's early tempo.

For Bangladesh, the return from Mosaddek was the story inside the total. His 86 was his highest ODI score, and it arrived in a first appearance in the format for nearly four years, with the innings resting on him once the top order had been broken.
