Marvel Rivals patch notes for season 8.5 put Cyclops at the front of NetEase's midseason update, and the character arrives as a Duelist built around visor beams for precision shots. Cyclops and the visor beam
Cyclops uses one ability to fire a scattershot beam that bounces between nearby characters and takes a big chunk out of their health bars. That move has two charges, while his mobility skill fires a laser blast and sends him flying backward quickly. The catch is simple: he gets no overhealth, and the mobility skill carries a long cooldown.
His ultimate is the sharper part of the kit. It charges a beam of light, sends it in a straight line in front of him and up into the air, then explodes after a second for hefty damage to any character or object. The move can damage Groot's walls, and it is harder for flying characters like Iron Man to dodge than most ultimates that stay localized.
K'un-Lun and Bounty Annihilation
Marvel Rivals 8.5 also adds the K'un-Lun: Shenloong Arena map and an 18v18 mode called Bounty Annihilation. That is the content swing that matters for players who want more than a single-character drop, because the update expands both the battlefield and the player count in one pass.
The seasonal event attached to 8.5 brings swimsuit costumes for a select lineup of characters, and the Hellfire Bay Beach social spot adds another themed destination to the update. The 616 vault window
NetEase is opening the 616 vault from June 12 to June 26, bringing back costumes that ran in events from July through September 2025, including the last round of swimsuits. That gives players a short purchase window for older cosmetics while season 8.5 pushes fresh content into the rotation.
