Arozarena Homers in 10th to Lift Mariners Past Orioles 6-5

Randy Arozarena ended it in the 10th, driving a home run on Rico Garcia’s second pitch to send the Mariners past the Orioles 6-5 at Camden Yards. The win came after Baltimore forced extra innings with a two-run ninth, but Seattle left with a 36-32 record and first place in the American League West.

Garver and Gilbert set the tone

Seattle built the lead behind Logan Gilbert’s six innings and Mitch Garver’s three-run homer off Trevor Rogers in the fourth. Gilbert worked deep enough for a quality start, and the Mariners kept adding pressure before Andrew Kittredge allowed three straight two-out singles in the seventh.

That sequence pushed the lead to 4-1, but Baltimore answered in the bottom of the inning after Alex Hoppe entered. Coby Mayo reached on an error, Jackson Holliday beat out a roller, Tyler O’Neill grounded into a double play, Mayo scored on a wild pitch, and Samuel Basallo struck out as the Orioles cut into the margin without fully catching up.

Camden Yards swings late

The game tightened again in the ninth. Leody Taveras opened the frame by striking out on an automatic strike call, then Mayo launched a 422-foot homer off José A. Ferrer at 110.2 mph to tie it and move the Orioles into extra innings.

That comeback briefly masked Baltimore’s larger problem. The Orioles were 2-for-20 with runners in scoring position through the first two games of the series and had stranded 20 runners, a stretch that left too many chances on the table even before the final inning.

Arozarena answers in the 10th

The 10th ended almost as soon as it started. Nick Davila hit Blaze Alexander to open the inning, Taveras singled to cut the lead to 6-5, and then Arozarena broke through on Garcia’s second pitch with the automatic runner on second base.

Baltimore’s loss stretched its losing streak to four games and dropped the club to 31-37. Mayo said after the game, “You can’t prepare for those moments,” a blunt read on a finish where the Orioles again had traffic but could not match Seattle’s last swing.
