Callum Stead Joins Cambridge United After 50 Goals for Barnet

Callum Stead has joined Cambridge United after three years at Barnet, ending a spell that brought 50 goals in 124 appearances. The move takes the 25-year-old forward up a level after he became Barnet’s top scorer during their title-winning run and first season in League Two.

Dean Brennan called the switch the next step in Stead’s career and said he had been part of Barnet’s 100 club. He also pointed to 36 fantastic months at the club, where the forward turned debut came as a substitute against Bromley in Barnet’s second game of the 2023/24 National League campaign.

Stead’s Barnet output

Stead’s scoring record was built quickly. He opened his Barnet account in a 2-1 win over Kidderminster Harriers about a month after his debut, then finished his first season in North-West London with 14 league goals and four braces against Oxford City, York City, Rochdale and Dorking.

His strongest return came in Barnet’s National League title-winning season, when he scored 18 times and was the club’s top goalscorer. Two of those goals came in the 4-0 home win against Aldershot that secured the championship, and he also picked up Barnet’s Players’ Player of the Season award.

Cambridge United add a scorer

The new move gives Cambridge United a forward with a record that kept improving across each stage of his Barnet spell. Last season he scored his first EFL goal in a 2-0 home win against Accrington Stanley and added 12 more league goals, finishing with five in Barnet’s final home game of the campaign against Gillingham.

For Barnet, the departure removes a striker who scored in league football, title football and the step into the EFL, all in the same three-year run. Brennan’s comments framed the move as progression rather than a break, and Barnet also announced Ryan Glover’s move to Stockport County and Craig Farquhar’s arrival as a free transfer ahead of 2026/27.
