Freeland Nws tornado damaged 30 to 40 homes

The National Weather Service in Detroit said nws an EF-1 tornado touched down in Freeland at 1:11 PM Tuesday and lifted around 1:14 PM, leaving damage across a 1.44-mile path. The survey estimated peak winds at 90 MPH and found damage to 30 to 40 homes.

Freeland Road and Washington Road

The tornado touched down just south of the Freeland Road, Washington Road, and Webster Road intersection, then cut a narrow path 100 yards wide. Roof damage showed up on several structures just south of Freeland and Washington, while several homes between Freeland and Sarle roads had siding and minor roof damage.

Homes along Sarle Road and near Prairie View Court took the hardest hit. One home lost part of its roof, a shed or outbuilding was destroyed, and garage doors were blown in. Several areas of tree damage were also reported.

Sarle Road damage survey

The survey, carried out by the National Weather Service in Detroit with assistance from Saginaw County Emergency Management, documented a mix of home, structure, and vehicle damage. A few RVs and campers were flipped over and moved.

For residents in the path, the damage report gives the clearest picture of where the storm hit hardest: the area around Sarle Road and Prairie View Court, not the broader Freeland area. The line of damage stayed localized, but it still reached enough homes, vehicles, and outbuildings to show a concentrated impact across several blocks.

The confirmed track and wind estimate provide the baseline for cleanup and repair decisions in the damaged neighborhoods. With 30 to 40 homes affected, the immediate work for property owners is to document roof, siding, garage, tree, and vehicle damage before repairs begin.
