Edgar Campre Leads With 2624 Points at Ncaa Track And Field Championships 2026
Miami's Edgar Campre led the decathlon at the ncaa track and field championships 2026 with 2624 points after three events at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon. He put himself atop the leaderboard with second-place finishes in the 100 meters and shot put.
Campre At Hayward Field
The update came during Wednesday's action, which started at 1 p.m. PT and 4 p.m. ET at the 2026 DI outdoor track and field national championships. Campre had already banked points in the 100 meters, shot put and long jump, the first three events of the decathlon.
That left two Day 1 events still on deck in the decathlon: the high jump and 400 meters. At this stage, the Miami decathlete had separated himself from the field with a total that reflected consistency rather than one runaway result.
National Championships In Eugene
The meet at Hayward Field brought together individual championships and combined events, with the top 48 declared student-athletes in individual events and the top 24 declared relay teams accepted into first-round competitions. From each first-round site, the top 12 competitors in each individual event and the top 12 teams in each relay event advanced.
The final site selections were announced on Monday, June 1, setting the field for the championships now playing out in Oregon. Wednesday's schedule was set to run until 8:36 p.m. PT, or 11:36 p.m. ET.
Decathlon Pressure
Campre's 2624-point mark gave Miami an early name at the top of the combined-events standings, but the competition was only partway through the opening day. With the high jump and 400 meters still to come, the leaderboard could still shift before the session ended.
