Rob Edwards Says Trippier Deal Shows Wolves Fc Plan
Rob Edwards said wolves fc bringing in Kieran Trippier as the first signing of the summer shows exactly what the club are trying to do. He called the move a coup and linked it directly to a push for an immediate return to the Premier League.
Trippier arrives first
Edwards said he wanted Trippier to be Wolves' first signing, adding: “When I met him, I said, ‘I want you to be our first signing’, and I think that sets out what we’re trying to do.” The head coach said the 54-capped England international had good options before choosing Wolves.
“I’m so happy to bring him here, because when we met, it was really evident that he really wants to come to Wolves,” Edwards said. “He wants to help us get promoted again, so this is really something for us to achieve.”
Championship experience
Trippier joins Wolves in the Championship after being described as a key figure in Newcastle United's resurgence. Edwards said that background is part of the appeal, because Wolves need experience, leadership, resilient characters and strong characters for next season.
“We know what we’ve lacked this year, and we know what we need next year,” he said. “From quality to experience to leadership to know how, and he also has a real hunger.” Edwards added: “I think that’s really important, especially in the Championship, because it is different.”
Leadership at Wolves
Edwards said he spoke to people at Newcastle about Trippier before the move went through, and that the defender’s standards would carry into the dressing room. He also said Trippier would be a captain for Wolves “on a daily basis and on a matchday as well,” even if wearing the armband is not what drives him.
The signing gives Wolves a first summer addition with 54 England caps, experience in a promotion fight and a player Edwards believes can set the tone every day. For a club trying to move straight back up, the move is meant to be the opening signal rather than the finishing touch.
