Ketv Weather: Omaha storms expected after 3:00 AM Thursday
Ketv weather calls for strong storms very early Thursday morning around Omaha and then into Iowa. The best chance for storms in the Omaha metro is before sunrise Thursday, after a Wednesday that turned hot and breezy.
Wednesday afternoon temperatures were well into the 90s across the metro, while humidity was expected to drop Wednesday evening and west winds were gusting over 25 mph. That combination comes before a cooler, drier air mass arrives Thursday.
Falls City to Clarinda
A Tornado Watch was in effect from about Falls City through Clarinda until 9:00 PM Wednesday, with the best chance for storms in those areas expected before 5:00 PM. Overnight, more storms were expected to develop across eastern Nebraska and western Iowa.
Models were starting to lock in on storms from I-80 to the south after 3:00 AM, and any storms that form could bring big hail, strong winds, and heavy rain. The heavy rain could linger through the morning drive and then push into Iowa, with more scattered showers lasting until noon Thursday.
Thursday in Omaha
Northwest winds were expected to pick up Thursday afternoon, with gusts over 30 mph at times. Highs in the metro were expected to stay around 80 degrees.
That shift comes before the first day of the CWS, when highs were expected in the mid to upper 80s with plenty of sun, a little breeze, and low humidity. There could also be some delays downtown and at Memorial Stadium for Banana Ball on Saturday if storms hold together across parts of the Missouri River Valley.
Saturday to Monday
Storms were starting to shade a little more from Omaha to the south in the afternoon Saturday and likely push farther southeast into the evening, and severe storms were still possible across parts of the Missouri River Valley. Temperatures were expected to drop into the 70s for a couple of days after that front, with Sunday likely dry, a few isolated t-showers possible Monday, and highs around 90 degrees returning for the second half of next week.
