Toronto Police Officer Shot During Search Warrant Gunfire Exchange

Toronto police say an officer was rushed to hospital after being shot during an exchange of gunfire while officers executed a search warrant early Thursday. The incident happened around 5:42 a.m. near Trethewey Drive and Black Creek Drive.

Officers were carrying out the warrant as part of an ongoing investigation when gunfire broke out and the officer was struck. The injured officer was taken to hospital in an emergency run.

Police did not release the officer’s condition, the nature of the investigation or whether any suspects were injured or arrested. The warrant operation turned into a shooting before investigators had publicly identified anyone involved.

The lack of information leaves the immediate next steps with investigators at the scene and hospital staff handling the officer’s care. For now, the only settled facts are where it happened, when it happened and that the officer was hit during the exchange.
