BEI probes Mirabel chase crash that injured 2 people

mirabel became the end point of a police chase shortly before 4 a.m. Thursday, when a vehicle being pursued by police veered off the road and struck an electrical pole. Two people were injured and taken to hospital, with one in critical condition.

BEI investigation

Quebec’s police oversight agency is investigating the traffic accident northwest of Montreal, and the Sûreté du Québec is taking part in the inquiry. The agency said the chase began in Boisbriand and ended in Mirabel after the vehicle left the road.

Two-day span

The Mirabel case is the agency’s second investigation in two days. Early Wednesday morning, it was also looking into the deaths of two people after their vehicle ended up in the Delisle River southwest of Montreal following a police intervention.

For people caught up in the Mirabel crash, the immediate consequence is medical care and an external review of how the pursuit unfolded. The investigation now sits with the BEI, while police handling of the chase and the collision remains part of the record being examined.
