Guardians Trade Nolan Jones For $250K Bonus Pool Allotment
The Guardians traded nolan jones and cash considerations to the White Sox for a $250K international bonus pool allotment. Chicago assigned Jones to Triple-A Charlotte after Cleveland had already removed him from its 40-man roster at the end of Spring Training.
Nolan Jones Leaves Cleveland Again
The move ends a short return to the organization that drafted him in 2016. Jones was outrighted off the roster, cleared waivers and accepted a Triple-A assignment to avoid losing his salary, then became trade currency when Cleveland and Chicago swapped a player and cash for international spending space.
Jones is owed roughly $1.15 million through the end of the season, and Cleveland is paying an undisclosed portion of that total. The White Sox took on the rest, while the Guardians added $250K to their international bonus pool allotment.
White Sox Add Triple-A Depth
Charlotte now holds the next stop for Jones, who spent the entire season in the International League with Cleveland’s affiliate in Columbus before the deal. He is hitting.275/.385/.460 with eight home runs across 226 plate appearances in the minors this year.
That line fits the profile he has carried for much of his career. Jones has used a three true outcomes approach throughout his career, and his best major league season came with Colorado in 2023, when he hit.297/.389/.542 with 20 homers in a little over 400 plate appearances.
The trade also closes another chapter on a player Cleveland kept cycling through different roster spots. Jones appeared in the Majors each season from 2022 through 2025, but back problems limited him to half a season in 2024, when he hit.227/.321/.320 with three homers in 79 games. He later missed the end of 2025 with a season-ending oblique strain in late September.
Cleveland Clears Room
For Cleveland, the deal follows two consecutive seasons of below replacement-level production, a $2 million arbitration agreement early in the offseason, and a Spring Training cut that left him outside the 40-man roster. The Guardians had been carrying 10 outfielders on that roster, so the move trims a crowded group while sending Jones to a new organization and a new Triple-A assignment.
