England Vs Sri Lanka: Danni Wyatt-Hodge Sparks 51-0 Start

England vs Sri Lanka began with the hosts racing to 51-0 by the sixth over at Edgbaston on 12 June 2026. Danni Wyatt-Hodge and Amy Jones gave England a 50-run opening stand as the Women’s T20 Cricket World Cup got underway at 6.30pm BST.

Danni Wyatt-Hodge At Edgbaston

Wyatt-Hodge hit the first boundary of the tournament in the second over, and England kept moving through the early overs. The openers took the score to 6-0 after the first over, 15-0 after the second, 23-0 after the third, 32-0 after the fourth and 46-0 after the fifth before reaching 51-0.

England’s start came with a line-up built for control as well as pace, with Nat Sciver-Brunt captaining the side and Alice Capsey carded to bat at number 4. The XI also included Heather Knight, Freya Kemp, Dani Gibson, Charlie Dean, Sophie Ecclestone, Linsey Smith and Lauren Bell, while Jones kept wicket.

Sri Lanka Choose To Field

Sri Lanka elected to field, and Chamari Athapaththu led a side meeting the hosts in the tournament opener. England countered with three spin options in Ecclestone, Dean and Smith, giving the innings a different shape once the powerplay ended.

The group also includes New Zealand, West Indies, Ireland and Scotland, so the first innings at Edgbaston offers the clearest early marker of England’s tone in front of their home crowd. A 51-0 start leaves Sri Lanka chasing a reply immediately after England’s opening pair had already put the contest on the front foot.
